Services offered

IAS is a boutique acupuncture service that is 100% dedicated to helping couples achieve a successful IVF pregnancy and ultimately a healthy and happy baby.

To that end we offer the following services:

Day of Embryo Transfer

IAS offers acupuncture treatments on site at the clinic location of your embryo transfer. An IAS practitioner meets the patient 1 hour before the scheduled transfer for an acupuncture treatment and treats the patient again immediately after the transfer procedure.

During an IVF Cycle

During an IVF cycle, IAS offers standardized administration of evidence-based protocols that achieve an over 60% increase in ongoing pregnancies in controlled studies. The number of treatments depends on the protocol used. The decision of which protocol to use and the incorporation of modifications depends on the history of the patient and various parameters that are checked throughout the cycle. A typical cycle will involve 4 to 10 treatments.

After Embryo Transfer

Of course a successful pregnancy desires carrying that pregnancy to term. At IAS, our focus is not only on carrying a pregnancy to term, but to ensure the healthiest possible environment for fetal development and ultimately the healthiest possible baby.

To that end, IAS offers treatments to help ensure proper circulation and nutrient delivery to the growing fetus. There is also evidence that acupuncture may also help protect the fetus by increasing the antioxidant status of the blood.

These treatments also help the body adapt to the changes that occur during pregnancy. Research has demonstrated that acupuncture can reduce miscarriage rates and ectopic pregnancies and increase live births. It can also promote healthier pregnancies by lowering elevated blood sugar levels, reducing hypertension, nausea and vomiting and improving thyroid and adrenal function. It has even been shown to help reduce the number of C-sections by helping to turn breech babies.

In general, acupuncture is recommended weekly through the first trimester to help support implantation and proper growth during the very crucial initial stages of fetal development. If there are certain genetic factors, a history of late-term miscarriage, or prior history of a child with birth defects, acupuncture should be used throughout the entire pregnancy.

In Preparation for an IVF Cycle

In circumstances where risk factors for infertility are known, IAS has found that various protocols can substantially help in preparing couples for a successful IVF cycle.

Some of these risk factors include a history of:

  • Endometriosis
  • Elevated FSH
  • Poor lining
  • Prior IVF failure
  • PCOS
  • Adhesions
  • Fibroids
  • Cysts
  • Sexually transmitted diseases
  • Immunological or inflammatory conditions both specific and non-specific
    • Examples include: autoimmune diseases, elevated natural killer cells, anti-nuclear antibodies, C-reactive protein, antiphospholipid antibodies, antithyroid antibodies, antisperm antibodies
  • Male Factor
    • Morphology issues
    • Low sperm motility
    • Low sperm count
    • Anti-Sperm Antibodies
Depending on the issue, a course of treatments from 1 to 3 months prior to an IVF cycle may be recommended.
