About IVF Acupuncture Services
IVF Acupuncture Services (IAS) was created to provide the highest quality, evidence-based acupuncture services for patients undergoing IVF.
The founders of IAS recognized the need for consistent and standardized care for patients seeking acupuncture during their IVF cycle, as well as for fertility clinics that want to provide acupuncture services for their patients.
While many practitioners claim various specialties (such as IVF acupuncture or reproductive medicine), they may lack specialized training. This creates a problem for both physicians and patients. How can one know that acupuncture is effective for assisting the IVF process? And how can one evaluate the competency of an acupuncturist in the field of IVF?
Evaluating Treatment Protocols
To evaluate efficacy in IVF-related acupuncture protocols, it is important that a purely objective method be used. We believe that the best way to do this is through published, controlled studies.
For this reason, IAS began working on clinical trials in IVF in 2002. Working with physicians who are certified in reproductive endocrinology, IAS has designed and co-authored two acupuncture studies that were presented at the Pacific Coast Reproductive Society Annual Meetings and published in Fertility and Sterility.
Results of Published Study
Our first published study examined some of the more difficult IVF cases, where all patients previously had an unsuccessful IVF. Our protocol improved outcomes in all parameters, including implantation rates, a significant reduction in the amount of gonadotropins used per cycle and a 60% increase in ongoing pregnancies. The acupuncture protocol for this study was designed by Dr. Daoshing Ni. The acupuncture was administered by two IAS practitioners, both trained by Dr. Dao.
Our second published study was a pilot study examining acupuncture’s effects on women whose uterine lining thickness had never been 8mm or greater. Women whose lining is less than 8mm, have extremely poor IVF outcomes. We developed a special protocol for this study and every women in the study achieved a lining thickness of 10mm or greater. None of these women had ever achieved a lining of 8mm or greater prior to receiving acupuncture.
Our Training
IAS developed a certification process intended to ensure practitioner competency in the specialized field of IVF Acupuncture.
All IAS practitioners are personally trained in the proper administration of IVF acupuncture protocols by Dr. Daoshing Ni. With over 25 years experience specializing in infertility, Dr. Dao has been using acupuncture in conjunction with IVF since IVF became available to the public.
In addition to specialized acupuncture training, our practitioners are also trained in Western IVF protocols by physicians specializing in IVF. This portion of the training includes both didactic and clinical observation at every stage of the IVF process. Through the combination of Eastern and Western Medicine, our practitioners gain a thorough theoretical and practical understanding of IVF.
Because of these research and training methods, IAS is able to provide consistent, high quality acupuncture services for our clients.
